Hi!

Please read the whole post - there is a small test near the end!! :)

We are looking for one or two people to rent 2 rooms in our quaint forest cabin. The total rent is $1000/mo for both rooms. Included in the rent is trash, electric, gas, recycling, water and internet (Starlink! It is very good!) . We ask for a $350 security deposit and first and last month's rent before move in. We are looking for a 6 month lease. Open to longer leases after the first 6 months. Our timeline for moving in is unknown at this point. We have one roommate moving out within the next 2-4 months, we aren't sure exactly.

Other details:

The Land: We are 35-50 minutes from Portland and 25 minutes from Forest Grove or Hillsboro. We are on 5 acres at the foothills of the Oregon coastal range forest with a pond, marsh land, fir and cedar trees, wild hiking land, pottery studio, gardening spaces, and a shop with some basic construction, auto, and wood tools. We park outside for now. We are looking to make additions including but not limited to a hot tub, sauna, yurts, camping spaces, and garden spaces. We have a small scale production pottery studio outside the house that supports our small family business at the Portland Saturday Market.

The House: Hard wood floors in most of house, newly (Re-store) remodeled kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms. There are some house rules, but they are flexible and respectful. The living room area is where we play music, have group meals, play games, and hang out sometimes by the fireplace. The living room, and kitchen is shared space.

The Rooms:

The Cast (Current Roommates):

Jesse Orange-Hough: (M/37) I am the property host for my dad, who owns the land. I am a UO grad in Pre-med and a proud Naturopathic Medical school drop out :) I'm passionate about sustainability, art, wellness, and those are all big drivers in what I do. I work in the pottery studio, bartend and cater at McMenamins, run a small health/Medicare insurance agency, dance ballet 2-3 times a week and am a big fan of our little farm/large garden :) I will be traveling for much of 2025 but when I am here I will have a sleeping unit "up the hill" in a little tiny house I am building, I will only be in the house to do some laundry, take a shower, or do some cooking. Depending on accommodations I am able to build this summer, I may just come into the house for laundry! I will clean up after myself and have minimal impact of the living situation of the roommates downstairs. I have a long haired dachshund, Luna, she is 8, fixed and is a sweetheart that will love you as much as you love her.

David Hough: (M/70) David is the landowner and is here 3-4 days a week to work in the pottery studio and work on the property. He has his own trailer here where he will sometimes spend the night or mix up some delicious pico de gallo. He enjoys his weekly Wing- Chun practice and talking philosophy in his free time. He has a great attitude towards life and is a very successful potter.

Baba (M/??) & Jerusha (F/??):

Baba and Jerusha are successful Batik artists (similar to Tie-die but with unique techniques and drawings) who sell at the Portland Saturday Market, the Astoria Farmer's Market, and many other direct sales venues. They have two sweet Australian Sheppard dogs who are unneutered. They both love to garden and enjoy living in nature and in a peaceful place like our property.

Needs:
1) Proof of Reliable income.
2) Willing to use approved eco detergents, soaps, and other natural cleaning products. (No dryer sheets or fabric softeners. I the buy the eco-laundry detergents so this is no extra cost to you.)
3) Willing to contribute to support the land or house doing a chore(s). Just a chore or two, around an hour a week.
4) A generally frugal lifestyle regarding utilities, lights, and general consumption.
5) No "all the time" TV watching, video steaming or video gaming.
6) Willing to cook meals together every once in a while and respect for other people's dietary needs/decisions.
7) General shared values and aspirations to make the world a better place environmentally and consciously.
8) General desire to be part of a community(lite), spend some time together and enjoy supporting others on the property and in their journeys.

These community guidelines are very important and clarification of them most likely will come up in the the time we live together, I never expect people to know exactly what I mean by some of them but you get a general feeling to start with right ? :)

Other Needs: We are looking for a peaceful roommate(s). We don't smoke weed but we are cannabis friendly, outside or out the window please. Mindful and respectful drinkers if you imbibe. Moderation and respect is key with any of that stuff. Hard drugs, cocaine, meth, fentanyl is a not allowed 0%. Looking for people who are food, energy use, gender, and racially conscious and respectful. (btw please include the word ZEBRA in your first correspondence with me to prove you read this post at least this far and agree to community standards - yes it's a lil' test! ;) Important to be comfortable with country living and a few difficult weather/situations and things not always being perfect, it's country living! . Peaceful communicators of feedback, needs, and general conversation appreciated. Incense, perfumes, and synthetic fragrances don't work for us, sorry!?
